The Eyebrow Trend Evolution

One of the biggest trends in beauty – brows. Why are they always messing with women’s eyebrows? Over the past several years brow styles have been bushy, bleached, bedazzled, bold and even shaped like a Nike™ logo.

Speaking of eyebrows, you’ll enjoy this story: I was doing makeup for a wedding and the bride requested makeup for her grandmother, specifically her eyebrows. Grandma was striking with her snowy white hair – yet, no eyebrows. I jumped right to it with my “taupe” colored eye brow pencil and started creating grandma’s eyebrows from scratch by using her nose, eye and ear measurements – just like I learned in makeup school. She was not happy. After two more attempts she said the color was “off”, and she gave me her own eyebrow pencil to use. It was black. Yes, you read that right, black.

Two more attempts to recreate granny’s eyebrows and no luck. “It isn’t me”, she said, then took her black eyebrow pencil and shuffled off to the bathroom, reappearing minutes later with black eye brows – looking like she used the hook from a plastic coat hanger as her stencil! I would have never gone there! Now I know why the granddaughter wanted me to do her grandmother’s eyebrows so badly.

Grandma was excited, “Now, this is me!”

Her eyebrows were her signature and they had nothing to do with the vertical measurement from the inner corner of her eye, angle from the outer corner of the nose or the iris of the eye upward. And, no one would have recognized her without her brows.

TWO-TONE LIPS
The Makeup Trend: Contrasting shades on the top and bottom lip.
My Pro Tip: This trend is best with liquid lipstick in two contrasting shades. I say go for it! Or, modify this trend for everyday life – I recommend drawing an outline around your lips in one color, then filling it all in with a different color or wearing two different shades of lipsticks combined for a two dimensional, ombre/two-tone look.

FRESH SKIN
The Makeup Trend: Dewy, ‘No Makeup’ Makeup (Single Layer Makeup)
My Pro Tip: Rather than layering your makeup products on top of each other (foundation, concealer, highlighter, blush) you simply apply each product in ONE layer, only to the section of the face it is needed on. The end result is a really natural look with flawless glowing skin.

Dopamine Dressing For Your Mental Health

The idea of dressing to help boost your mood is nothing new. It’s called ‘Dopamine Dressing’. Also known as ‘Enclothed Cognition’ and ‘Joyful Dressing’.

It’s simply a shift towards clothing that’s bright, colorful, and downright joyful.

It’s the opposite of everything we wore at home the past three years. Think candy colors, neon hues, and prints that POP.

This association between brightly colored clothing and happiness is not new, the idea of injecting joy through what we wear is what I call ‘Dress Out Loud’ – and it’s what transformed my life.

I’m wearing the same three outfits on repeat. Seventy pounds overweight; nothing fits. I don’t like the way I look; I’m hiding in my house.

The crazy thing: I’m managing a ladies fashion boutique crammed full of colorful clothes & sparkly accessories, and I’m “Beige Betty” over here – feeling ugly, insecure + invisible.

So, I run away from home for five days, at 50 years old...

Little did I know, the dark season of going ‘unnoticed’ would soon be over for me thanks to dopamine dressing.

While I’m not promising that dopamine dressing can cure depression or anxiety, dressing in clothes that complement your coloring, body type and personality can certainly give you a much-needed emotional boost and it’s a great place to start!

Three Things You Need to Know About Dopamine Dressing

There is a slight art to following this movement, so I wanted to share three things you need to know when playing around with dopamine dressing.

#1. Use Color Theory/A Color Wheel

Use Color Theory/A Color Wheel to help decide what color combinations you want to try together. How colors mix, match or contrast with each other will determine how well your look comes together.

#2. Ease Into it With Accessories

Keep your foundational pieces (dress, top, or bottoms) in a neutral color and then layer in a pop of color with a boldly-colored handbag, shoes, jewelry, lipstick or even nail polish (I love press-on nails because they can instantly lift your whole mood)!

#3. Stick with Silhouettes That Flatter You

Then just step outside of your comfort zone when it comes to the pattern or color. Don’t go against your own style rules; still think about the colors (your Color Code™) and what shapes (your Body Type) are flattering on you.

… I spent an entire year discovering and developing my personal image, purpose and potential; and as a result, God transformed my personal appearance, my mental and emotional health and restored my marriage.

DIY Coffee Face Mask: Brighten DULL Skin Women 50+

Instructions:

  • Mix 1 tablespoon fresh coffee grounds  with 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • Gently massage this all over your face and neck and let it sit for five minutes.
  • Rinse well with warm water to reveal beautiful, healthy, glowing skin!
  • Use it once or twice a week.

Why it works?

  1. Coffee grounds scrub away dead skin cells…
  2. Caffeine acid is an antioxidant and boosts collagen levels…
  3. and reduce the premature aging cells.

Delicious Exfoliating Coffee Scrub – LIPS

This flavor-packed scrub will exfoliate dead lip skin, moisturize and plump lips!

Ingredients:

Ground coffee, Honey, Coconut Oil and Cinnamon Powder

Instructions:

  •  Combine 1 tablespoon fresh coffee grounds, 1 tsp. raw honey and 1 tsp. coconut oil & a pinch of cinnamon powder – mix until a paste is formed.
  • Take a pea sized amount of this coffee lip scrub and gently rub it over your lips.
  • Scrub 30 seconds, let it sit another 30 seconds, rinse clean.

Why it works?

  1. The ground coffee exfoliates dead lip skin…
  2. Honey and coconut oil moisturize dry lips…
  3. and cinnamon makes lips look plump!
GETTING READY Bible Study (Delicious Lip Sugar Scrub)

Not a coffee drinker?  

Try this DIY Green Tea & Raspberries Face Mask to brighten dull, blah skin.  

Here’s how you do it.

Step 1.  Steep an organic green tea bag in hot water for 2 minutes.  Remove the bag and allow it to cool to room temperature.

Step 2.  Cut tea bag open and combine tea leaves with 6 smashed fresh raspberries.

Step 3.  Apply to the skin for 5-15 minutes.  Rise clean.

HOW TO FEEL CONFIDENT ON CAMERA

When it comes to making videos, the one thing that stops most people is not feeling confident on camera.

“What if I don’t like the way I look, or the way I sound?”

“What if my family or friends see it and they laugh at me?”

“What if I look silly and make a fool of myself?”

Or this one is HUGE…

“Who am I to be making videos and posting on line, anyways?”

If that sounds like you,

I have good news…

It’s totally normal!

Those are all things I hear from my clients and I’ve felt and said to myself when I started making videos, so I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL!

Those feelings and thoughts still come up for me sometimes.

That’s why I use the *Three Keys to Feeling Confident on Camera.

Hi, I’m Nancy Joseph and I help female entrepreneurs LOVE how they look, present themselves with absolute confidence and enroll their ideal clients/customers with ease.

These three keys I’m sharing with you today will help you feel more confident as you show up on camera and build your brand using video.

The first key to feeling confident on camera is Show Up For Your Ideal Client ONLY.

When you understand your ideal client, and you know EXACTLY what her biggest fears and frustrations are, you know that she needs you today, to show up and help her with that…

So forget about your friends, family or critics, who your video is not intended for anyway.  FOCUS on that one person who needs what you’ve got, and show up for that one person.

The second key to feeling confident on camera is Preparation.

By preparing exactly what you’re going to say and how you’re going to say it, you won’t feel like you’re rambling on and you’ll be able to keep your viewers attention much longer.

*I usually film 3 videos at a time and change my outfit.

That brings us to key number three.

The third key to feeling confident on camera is Looking Your Best.

Looking your best is about showing up and feeling like a million dollars.

I want you to think about how you would dress if you showed up to present a live event in front of that same audience.

Or how would you dress if you went on a first date with your ideal client?  What would you wear?  What’s the impression you’d want to make?

Your video is like a first date with your ideal client so make that impression last.

Your potential clients are out there waiting to become leads and clients for your business.

So, go.  Show Up.  Make Videos.  Feel More Confident on Camera.  Be Brave.

The courage you have today is going to change the world tomorrow.

How to Discover Your Best Colors {VIDEO}

Are you wearing the right color?

Coco Chanel said: “The best color in the whole world is the one that looks good on you”.

How many times has someone asked you “Are you tired?” “Are you not feeling well?” and yet, you were perfectly fine?

Chances are, you were wearing the wrong color.

You need a Color Analysis.

The season-style coloring system is old and outdated.

It’s time for you to learn a new way of looking at color, as well as a new way of looking at you.

We’ve cracked the code!

Introducing…. COLOR CODE.

There are six COLOR CODE categories: Light, Deep, Soft, Clear, Warm and Cool.

The color of your HAIR, SKIN and EYES will determine your COLOR CODE.

READ EACH DESCRIPTION AS IT PERTAINS TO YOUR COLORING AND SEE WHERE YOU BELONG.

LIGHT – Naturally blonde hair or white hair (due to hair
changing to this) Fair Skin tone
Light to medium eye color

DEEP – Medium to dark brown hair or black hair
Medium to dark skin tone
Hazel, brown, or black eyes

SOFT – Light to medium brown hair, sometimes described as mousy or dishwater blonde
Light to medium skin tone
Medium intensity eye color, like hazel, brown, blue, or green

CLEAR – Dark medium brown to black hair
Very fair to light or medium skin tone
Bright eye color (green, blue, or hazel) or dark brown

WARM – Red hair or golden blonde or brown hair with reddish highlights
Any skin tone, sometimes with freckles
Green, blue, brown or hazel eyes

COOL – Silver, gray, or ash brown
Light to deep skin tone, most often with a pink undertone (but not always)
Blue, green, hazel or brown eyes

You may see yourself in a couple of different categories. Helpful Hint: Your hair color is the key.

Color Codes as they appear above.

Warm, Clear, Light

Cool, Soft, Deep

When you know for certain into which category you belong, then read on to get more detailed information.

Basically, everybody can wear every color (there are few exceptions) it’s all about the Intensity of the color.

LIGHT – Wear pale to medium hues. Stay away
from very dark or too bright colors; bold makeup is not for you.

DEEP – Wear medium to deep shades, some
brights. Stay away from muted colors for clothes, and coloring your hair too light.

SOFT – Wear medium hues. Stay away from
black, black and black! Also stay away from very bright colors and combinations of high contrast colors like black and white together.

CLEAR – Wear bright hues. Stay away from
muted and dusty shades; beware especially of wearing brown and beige together.

WARM – Wear hues with a yellow undertone,
autumn-like shades. Stay away from pink, pink, pink!

COOL – Wear Light to medium, but always with a blue or pink undertone. Stay away from brown, beige, yellow, and orange.

Your eye color is your best neutral. If you have no idea what color to wear… go with the color of your eyes!

Knowing your Color Code is the foundation of your Personal Image.
