Three Steps to Developing a Powerful Personal Brand

You have to be seen to sell!

Your personal appearance is a powerful tool in helping you stand out from your competition, attract your ideal clients and impact your income.

Everything you wear conveys information about you.  For this reason, you need to understand the foundational details of a well-dressed woman.

As women entrepreneurs living and working in a highly competitive society, you must recognize and understand the impact of your appearance as it communicates first to you and then to others.  What you wear and the way you look affects:

  1.  your ideal clients
  2.  your influence
  3.  your income

Each of us presents an Image, consciously and sub-consciously ALL the time, through non-verbal communication including appearance.

Some people have a natural talent or ability to present themselves appropriately and attractively.  Most DO NOT.

THE GOOD NEWS is that personal image skills can be learned, then practiced til they become second nature.

DRESS CODES 101: For Self-Employed Women

Congratulations!  You’re self employed.  No more dress codes.  You get to wear whatever you want!

BE CAREFUL!!!

As women entrepreneurs working in a highly complex and competitive society, you must recognize and understand the impact of your appearance as it communicates first to you and then to others.

What you wear and the way you look affects:

  1. the way you think,
  2. the way you feel,
  3. the way you act or behave, and then
  4. the way others react or respond to you.

A couple of years ago, I was invited to a Cinco de Mayo party at a private home.  I didn’t see the invitation (I was somebody’s “plus one”).

I was anticipating margaritas, some tacos, and chips with salsa.

I wore my favorite faded jeans and a casual top.  I threw on a “fancy shmancy” statement necklace, just because, I’m random like that.  It was my version of Mexican Chic 🙂

BUT!  I was mortified when I arrived at the house party and discovered it wasn’t just a casual get-together with tacos and tequila…

It was a FULL BLOWN business networking event with vendors,

a Chef in the Kitchen preparing fresh seafood (tacos) and a

Bar with Bubbly Bartenders serving specialty drinks!

I was NOT at the proper DRESS CODE level.

I was embarrassed for myself (and the woman that invited me).  I felt irrelevant, insecure and inferior.

I wanted to crawl inside my jumbo “jalapeno margarita”… and die.

That night I promised myself I would never, ever, be below dress code level again!

Can you relate?

Here are FOUR Types of DRESS CODES to help you avoid a dress code disaster and dress appropriate for the occasion:

FOUR Types of DRESS CODES

  1. Casual.  Pull out your favorite jeans!  You can opt for a comfortable tee or dress things up with a stylish top, jewelry or even a blazer.  Footwear – Can range from sneakers to heels to boots.
  2. Business Casual.  Dress pants or khakis with a fashionable top is appropriate.  A casual skirt is also an option.  Feel free to dress up your outfit with heels, jewelry and/or accessories.  Hair and Makeup everyday style.
  3. Business.  Wear a business suit or a business style dress with heels (high or low).  Tip:  Stick to business colors:  black, navy blue, gray or brown.  (Knowing your best business color is vital so you don’t look tired, old or sick)
  4. Smart Casual.  Smart Casual (or dressy casual) is basically a combination of casual, business casual, and business dress codes, where you can combine them into a “smart” ensemble.  It’s safest to go with nice slacks or a skirt, though you could also wear a nice pair of dark jeans dressed up with a collared or otherwise dressy top.  Throw on a blazer for an extra touch of class.  For Smart Casual, you should look sharp, stylish and neatly put together.

I’ve come a long way since my dress code disaster – As for me, I believe blazers are the answer for all occasions!

How to Look Your Best on Video

Are you hesitating to get on facebook LIVE and do video presentations because you don’t like the way you look?

Are you nervous about the extra 10 pounds the camera adds, and so you’re waiting until you lose weight?

Do you think your hair & makeup need to be professionally done?

Or maybe you’ve bought into that whole “It shouldn’t matter what I look like – people should like me for me, not because of how I look” trend?

And you’re right.

You absolutely do not have to take extra care to present your “best self” UNLESS….

You want to Stand Out,

Be Memorable and

Be the go-to Expert!

The truth is:

How you look and what you wear has a big impact on how you will be perceived by your viewing audience.

In other words, Your Personal Appearance matters!

Here’s the GOOD NEWS, Your style is perfect for you.

You want your viewers to spend more time looking at your face (and hearing your message) than staring at or being distracted by your clothes in your video presentations.

Taking extra care to present your “best self” ensures that the way you “look” meets the expectations of your target audience and builds your credibility.

Here are Three Vital Tips to help you dress for success in your video presentations.

  1. Your Makeup.  Your makeup application needs to be applied “heavier” than you would normally use in daily life.  (The camera & lights can really diminish or wash out your features, so it’s vital to have the most expressive features on your face defined and framed properly).
  2. Your Hair.  Have a good hair day!  If your hair is flat or frizzy it can affect your performance.
  3. Your Clothes.  Wear comfortable clothes and what you feel you look the best in.  If you are comfortable then you will be confident.

BONUS!

The camera doesn’t like black or white patterns.  Solid colors look best and highlight your figure. (Make sure you’re wearing the right hue – complementing your skin tone).  Yes, the camera can add pounds and certain cuts are better for your figure.

NOW you can get on video anytime, anywhere and Never Be Nervous Again!

Was this helpful?

NOW is the time for you to stop hiding and overcome your fear and deliver dynamic video presentations!

Your clients are LOOKING for you!!!

…So always dress your best and walk with Confidence.

-COCO CHANEL

Hello Beautiful!

I believe everything you’ve been taught around IMAGE is absolutely backwards!

Here’s why.

People think it’s just about lipstick & cute shoes.  That it’s superficial.

Here’s what I know.

People are judging us on camera.  People are judging us at events.

This communication impacts our lives in more ways than we ordinarily think.

I believe the BEST WAY for YOU to ATTRACT CLIENTS, BE MEMORABLE and INCREASE YOUR INCOME

is to CREATE your own authentic, attractive and magnetic SIGNATURE LOOK!

Some people have a natural talent or ability to present themselves appropriately and attractively.  Most DO NOT.

The good news is that personal image skills can be learned, then practiced til they become second nature.

BEWARE of Wearing BLACK

Did you know less than 1/2 women can wear black well?

(Some can wear it well – depends on your COLOR CODE)

  • Can make you look old
  • Brings out dark circles & skin imperfections
  • Can draw attention to your body & not your face
  • Can be slimming (on the right people) but so can navy, espresso & charcoal
  • Can draw attention to your “roots” that need to be retouched
  • Black eyeliner will make you look old and show extra wrinkles.  Wear espresso instead.

CAN YOU WEAR BLACK?

If you’re COLOR CODE is SOFT – STAY AWAY FROM BLACK!!!!

P.S. To find out what your Color Code is please answer these three questions in the COMMENTS below:  Color of Hair _________ Color of Eyes __________ Skin Tone Light/Medium/Dark

You are NOT meant to work with everybody! Networking Guide (eBook)

Maybe it’s time to give up and get a “real job”.

That was my first thought when I got home after a thirty minute drive from yet another speaking engagement with no book sales and no emails for my list.

I was about to text my mentor and tell her “I Suck. I Quit.” when all of sudden, I realized what I did wrong.

I spent half a day speaking to a group of people who were NOT my target market.  Fail.

It reminded me of when I used to go to networking events (before I created my personal brand), and wasted time, energy and money; because I was

  • prospecting everybody with a pulse and a pocketbook,
  • sharing my products and opportunity with everybody within a 3 foot radius;
  • and collecting business cards from everybody.

This is NOT how to grow your business or your brand.

You are NOT meant to work with everybody!

PROOF: A Bad Hair Day = Low Self Esteem (and wine)

Having a bad hair day affects MORE than just your appearance.

My hair appointment is long OVER DUE and it set the tone for my day.

First, I felt UGLY so I didn’t go to church.  (I didn’t want anyone to see me.)

Then, I tried to film some training videos for my YOUTUBE Channel, but after one hour of brushing and teasing the sh*t out of my hair;

and not liking the way I looked, sounded or felt – I SCRATCHED that whole idea – and had a glass of wine.

(Behind the Scenes of my Bad Hair Day)

We’ve all been there.  A bad hair day which progresses into a day where everything goes wrong.  Why?

Researchers at Yale University found that bad hair INTENSIFIES feelings of social insecurity and self consciousness.

They found that “bad hair days” IMPACT self esteem by increasing levels of self doubt and personal criticism. (Oh, if you could have heard the nasty things I was saying to myself! X&%#$!)

The findings of this study indicate that it is important to MAINTAIN a good appearance in order to CONTINUE feeling good about yourself.

I KNOW this stuff!  I TEACH this stuff to my clients.

I tell them:  If you haven’t received a COMPLIMENT on your hair in the past two weeks, it’s time to cut it, color it or buy some more.

So what can you do to PREVENT bad hair days?

  1.  Visit your stylist and have your hair cut in a style that is flattering and easy to maintain.
  2. Make your NEXT appointment when you are there! (That’s the KEY!  If you do THIS – you’re golden!)

In my own defense, I do have a hair appointment in two days – but I will probably be HIDING and LESS PRODUCTIVE until my mane is groomed, primped and fixed up – PROOF that a bad hair day really affects our success, happiness and prosperity!

Finally, Since I didn’t actually film any training videos today…   Here is a FREE 16pt. Accessory Rule to HELP you LOOK and FEEL your Best!

P.S. (Please SHARE this Post on facebook to help put an end to BAD HAIR DAYS once and for all!!!)

Have a beautiful day!

3 Hacks to Help You Snatch the Perfect Handbag

Women get more pleasure from buying a handbag than any other item, a survey has revealed.

Handbags are the accessory that we use the MOST and they NEED to go with every outfit so there is a lot of satisfaction in finding the PERFECT bag.

Three Hacks to Help You Snatch the Perfect Handbag

  1. Match your handbag to your hair.  It’s impossible to have your bag match every outfit you own, but you always have your hair with you – so match your handbag with your hair!
  2. Wear the right size for your frame.  If your frame is small, wear a small bag.  If your frame is medium, wear a medium bag.  If your frame is large, wear a large bag.
  3. Carry your bag correctly.  Your bag should hang at your waist.  If you have large hips, don’t let your bag lay on the side of your hips.  If you have a large bust, tuck your bag behind you.

BONUSYour bag should REFLECT your Personal Style.

(Fringe is on trend!)

For many women, handbags are the most EXPENSIVE items on our shopping list.  Using the three hacks above will ENSURE that you are making a wise investment. $ $ $

Your HANDBAG is only ONE of your accessories.

Check out the FREE 16pt. Accessory Rule Report here to see the full checklist for accessorizing with style & CONFIDENCE.

Closet Confessions: 3 Key Points for Taking Control of Your Closet

Show me your closet & I’ll tell you four things about YOU!

Did you know that your garbage man and your mailman can tell what type of family lives at your house based on your garbage and your mail?

Is your recycle bin full of empty beer bottles and pizza boxes?  Diapers or Depends?  Mail box filled with over due bills or fashion magazines?

You get the picture.  It’s the same thing with your closet.  It’s a reflection of who you are. *

CLOSET OVERSTUFFED but NOTHING TO WEAR?

Most people only wear 20 percent of their wardrobe.  Why?

Fads.

Yep, chasing fads, making random purchases without a lot of forethought or planning and then nothing to wear on Monday morning.

They have a closet full of fads but they don’t really feel comfortable in any of them.

They haven’t successfully identified their Signature Look, so instead they fill their closet with the latest fashions – but still end up wearing the same 2-3 outfits each week.

Is this YOU?  (It used to be me)

Here are Three Key Points to consider when clothes shopping:

  1.  Only buy clothes that are your COLOR; so you LOOK radiant and refreshed not washed out and exhausted.
  2. Only buy clothes that fit your BODY TYPE; so you FEEL comfortable and look confident.
  3. Only buy clothes that are your PERSONAL STYLE; so you are best expressing your personality.

I ENCOURAGE you to take control of your closet and implement these KEY points to ensure that you LOOK your BEST.
