HOW TO FEEL CONFIDENT ON CAMERA

When it comes to making videos, the one thing that stops most people is not feeling confident on camera.

What if I don’t like the way I look, or the way I sound?”

“What if my family or friends see it and they laugh at me?”

What if I look silly and make a fool of myself?”

Or this one is HUGE…

“Who am I to be making videos and posting on line, anyways?”

If that sounds like you,

I have good news…

It’s totally normal!

Those are all things I hear from my clients and I’ve felt and said to myself when I started making videos, so I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL!

Those feelings and thoughts still come up for me sometimes.

That’s why I use the *Three Keys to Feeling Confident on Camera.

Hi, I’m Nancy Joseph and I help female entrepreneurs LOVE how they look, present themselves with absolute confidence and enroll their ideal clients/customers with ease.

These three keys I’m sharing with you today will help you feel more confident as you show up on camera and build your brand using video.

The first key to feeling confident on camera is Show Up For Your Ideal Client ONLY.

When you understand your ideal client, and you know EXACTLY what her biggest fears and frustrations are, you know that she needs you today, to show up and help her with that…

So forget about your friends, family or critics, who your video is not intended for anyway.  FOCUS on that one person who needs what you’ve got, and show up for that one person.

The second key to feeling confident on camera is Preparation.

By preparing exactly what you’re going to say and how you’re going to say it, you won’t feel like you’re rambling on and you’ll be able to keep your viewers attention much longer.

*I usually film 3 videos at a time and change my outfit.

That brings us to key number three.

The third key to feeling confident on camera is Looking Your Best.

Looking your best is about showing up and feeling like a million dollars.

I want you to think about how you would dress if you showed up to present a live event in front of that same audience.

Or how would you dress if you went on a first date with your ideal client?  What would you wear?  What’s the impression you’d want to make?

Your video is like a first date with your ideal client so make that impression last.

Your potential clients are out there waiting to become leads and clients for your business.

So, go.  Show Up.  Make Videos.  Feel More Confident on Camera.  Be Brave.

The courage you have today is going to change the world tomorrow.

There you go.  The three keys to feeling confident on camera.

Why I Used to Hate Networking {Hint: It’s My Weight}

{The irony that World Mental Health Day and National Curves Day  are on the same day – inspired this post}

QUESTION:  Have you said “No” to a networking event because you felt insecure?

According to a recent survey by Marshall’s Department Store, more than 70 percent of women say that they have said ‘No’ to a social event or activity due to low self confidence.

If I’m being brutally honest.

I used to hate networking because I was embarrassed about my weight.

I felt ashamed by my weight.

I tied my self worth & my success to my body image.

I decided that I’m not good enough or worthy of success.

If something went wrong in my day, no matter how big or small, I felt anxious, I felt depressed which then lead to self sabotage.

So for me, self sabotage looks like (not taking care of myself).

Eating through my emotions.

Not showing up.

Not moving my body.

All things related to my weight.

Let me tell you a story:

AS A YOUNG GIRL, I would sit on the edge of my mother’s bed and watch her get ready for “date night” with my father.

I was fascinated with her cherry red lipstick and watched carefully as she applied it to her lips, “shmeared” it on her cheeks, and then rubbed vigorously.  It was magical.

In Seventh Grade, I got permission to wear makeup to school.  I jumped on my yellow ten-speed “Peugot” bicycle; that my father crafted for me in the basement, and rode to the shopping mall.  I broke the 8th Commandment (Thou Shall Not Steal), and stole a blue eye shadow, mascara and bubble gum pink lipstick from the drug store, and wore it to school the next day.

I didn’t even make it to lunchtime.  The boys in my class were brutal.  They laughed at me and called me a “prostitute”.  One boy pinched my neck and left a mark; it looked like a hickey.

I was humiliated, embarrassed and ashamed.

I went to the nurse’s office to call my mom to come get me.  I broke Commandment #9 (Thou Shall Not Lie) and told my mom, “I had cramps”.

This was the first moment I can remember allowing someone else’s opinion of me make me feel ashamed of who I was!

This was a significant emotional experience that resulted in self harm, binge eating, anxiety and full blown panic attacks.

IN MY ADULT LIFE, I was told, on more than one occasion, that I had a “pretty face”, but I would be so much prettier if I lost weight.

I’m Pretty FAT.

(I’m okay with that)

I don’t know what you’re dealing with today.

Whatever it is – it’s real to you.

Here’s an empowering reminder to celebrate yourself from head to toe.

Because while you should love what you wear, loving yourself is always the most important thing.

I BELIEVE my journey as an entrepreneur and possibly yours too, would be so much more exciting,

so much more rich,

and impactful,

if we were able to accept ourselves just the way we are TODAY and not allow other people’s opinions of us keep us from happiness, abundance and our purpose on this planet!

I’VE COME A LONG WAY since my first makeup nightmare.  TODAY I help women create success through personal development and entrepreneurship.

I BELIEVE this message found it’s way to you at just the right time.

Maybe it’s time for you too – to look at that one struggle – that one challenge that you just know is holding you back.

In the mean time… I’m here for you.

Pretty FAT.

Kisses!

You are NOT meant to work with everybody! Networking Guide (eBook)

Maybe it’s time to give up and get a “real job”.

That was my first thought when I got home after a thirty minute drive from yet another speaking engagement with no book sales and no emails for my list.

I was about to text my mentor and tell her “I Suck. I Quit.” when all of sudden, I realized what I did wrong.

I spent half a day speaking to a group of people who were NOT my target market.  Fail.

It reminded me of when I used to go to networking events (before I created my personal brand), and wasted time, energy and money; because I was

  • prospecting everybody with a pulse and a pocketbook,
  • sharing my products and opportunity with everybody within a 3 foot radius;
  • and collecting business cards from everybody.

This is NOT how to grow your business or your brand.

You are NOT meant to work with everybody!

Three Ways to Strengthen Your Brand With Your Style

Every day you make the decision to get out of bed, get dressed and step outside.  So fortunately, every day you have the opportunity to strengthen your brand.

Did you know that your clothes are the most powerful non-verbal tool that you have?

That means that your clothes are your power tools and your closet is like your tool box.

Style is “self expression”

Style is how you speak to the world without words.  It’s how you visually present your inner self.

Being stylish is about embracing your individuality and radiating that spirit in your work, relationships, and everywhere else.

Creating your own personal brand can increase your self-confidence and your connection with others, heightening your presence and ultimately leading to personal and professional success.

Here are three ways to use beauty and fashion as tools of self-expression to create your own personal brand.

1. Do your hair.

Your hair is your crowning glory.  Your most important accessory.  Pick a style that reflects your personality, complements your face shape and your body frame.

2. Makeup your face.

Makeup enhances your natural beauty.  You don’t need to wear a full face of makeup (unless you want to) but a little mascara makes your eyes look captivating + the right color lipstick will boost your mood and make your eyes sparkle.

3. Put some thought into your outfit.

Think three pieces.   A top, a bottom and a cover piece (i.e., jacket, cardigan, vest) – it’s that third element that bumps up your outfit to the next level and truly expresses your personal brand.

I want to encourage you to put your best self together (do your hair, makeup your face, and put some thought into your outfit).

IMAGINE how you would feel if you had a wardrobe that excited you and made you shine?

When you walk into a room I want you to feel self-assured and comfortable about how you look, because your clothes accurately support and express who you are.

When you feel good about the way you look, you do better, you sparkle and people take notice.

You already have style – it may just need a little guidance.
