How Much Should I Charge for Wedding Makeup?

Hey Lipstick Boss!

The question I get asked the most by Bridal Makeup Artists is “How much should I charge for wedding makeup?

Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, reportedly spent over $13,000 for hair and makeup on her wedding day.

The Bridal Beauty Industry is a Billion Dollar Industry – You deserve your piece of the pie!

Here is the “industry average” for traditional bridal makeup applications:

For the BRIDE, rates range from $85-$125, depending on the complexity of the makeup application.

BRIDESMAIDS have a lower cost than the bride and can average between $50 and $100.

In addition to the initial wedding makeup, sometimes BRIDES request that you remain on-site to provide touch-up services.

(I offer a set rate for FULL-DAY services.  For example, $50 per hour after the initial application costs.)

What about TRIALS, TRAVEL EXPENSES & TOUCH UP SERVICES?

Trials, travel expenses and Touch-up services are in addition to the wedding makeup application.

Missing Eyebrows: Learn How To Fill in Your Brows Without Looking Crazy (VIDEO)

Eyebrows are Important!

They frame our eyes.  Without them we look like Uncle Fester from the Addams Family. Yikes!

As we mature our brows lighten and become sparse.  Light, thin, short brows make us look OLDER and TIRED.  It’s important to color them in.

How to Fill in Your Brows so they look natural and polished.

It’s as Easy as 1, 2, 3

1)Find a powder or gel that is the color of the darkest shade in your hair.  Put the product on an angled brush.

** you can dampen the brush for a darker color **

2) Start in the center of your brow and apply small strokes.

3) Without adding more product; go to the beginning of the brow and fill in and all the way through to the end (again, using small strokes)

Your brow should be aiming for the top part of your ear – where it connects to your head.  Do not curve it down.  You will appear SAD 🙁 and OLDER.  If you curve them up you will appear CRAZY.

PS – See a professional to pluck, wax or thread your brows if they’re out of control.

I’m not a fan of tatooed eyebrows, especially on mature skin – I’m afraid they look unnatural.

How to Create a Vegan Breakfast Bowl (Recipe for Happiness)

This BREAKFAST BOWL has Super Foods and Super Powers!!!

“Several years ago, I was 70 pounds overweight, unhealthy, addicted to menthol cigarettes; suffering from hot flashes and depression.  I was unfulfilled in my job and unhappy in my 30 year marriage to my high school sweetheart.

At my lowest point I was inspired by a true story of a young, vegan girl.

I spent an entire year building a wardrobe that complements me; treating myself to beauty treatments; eating healthy; organizing my closet; simplifying my style and focusing on me.  As a result, I quit smoking, lost 50 pounds and gained self confidence.  I built a booming business and restored my marriage.

Today I eat to live, not live to eat.  I make food choices that nurture my body and my brain.  I’ve decided not to poison myself with the processed, packaged products.  Instead, I delight myself with colorful fruits and vegetables.”  -(Excerpts from The Fashionating Life Formula: How to Build your Self Confidence by Nancy Joseph)

I don’t know what brought you to this post today.

But if you are tired of being sick and tired… Here’s a delicious solution!

Vegan BREAKFAST BOWLS!

Did you know that plant-based food impacts your mood and energy levels?

I like to fill my breakfast bowls with “good-mood” foods like:  oats, bananas, nuts, peanut butter, sesame seeds & walnuts. (Omega – 3s Fatty Acid)

If you know me at all or follow me on Instagram or facebook, you know that I have a saying: “Everything tastes better in a wine glass

Well, I also believe that coffee cups are not just for coffee.  So let’s do this!

How to Create a Beautiful Breakfast Bowl (Vegan)

What you will need:

Pretty “Happy” Coffee Cup (Microwavable)

1/4 Cup Natural Whole Grain – Instant Oatmeal

1/2 cup water

1 banana

1 handful of blueberries

cinnamon

What you will do:

Cook Oatmeal and Water in Microwave as directed

Top Oatmeal with sliced banana, blueberries & cinnamon

ENJOY!

Have a beautiful day,

Nancy xoxo

How to Create a Vision Board that Works!

Want to achieve your goals?  Make a vision board.

Visualization is one of the most powerful mind exercises you can do.

What we focus on expands.  When you create a vision board and place it in a space where you see it often, you essentially end up doing short visualization exercises throughout the day.

So what’s the secret to creating a vision board that works?  It’s simple:

Your vision board should focus on how you want to feel, not just on things that you want.  The more your board focuses on how you want to feel, the more it will come to life.

Here’s an example, I have a picture of a green/white camper van on my vision board (pictured below), not because I want to own a green/white camper van, but because I love the feeling I get when I travel to new places.  I want my customers to feel those same happy vibes when they come across my brand, so on the board it went.

I added a few trinkets, like a shiny ball (ornament) and my bookmark.  They serve as a reminder that as a solopreneur I need to avoid Shiny Object Syndrome and focus.

A few inspirational note cards from my best friends and women I admire are on my board as well; I personally believe that their handwritten notes infuse my board with even more good vibes.

There is only one major rule to creating a vision board that works, and its that there aren’t any rules.  You aren’t going to mess it up, you can create your vision board on your own terms.

What you’ll need:

  • A Bulletin Board (corkboard)
  • Scissors, push pins, glue gun
  • Fun stickers, silk flowers, jewels, charms, buttons, glitter glue, etc.
  • Magazines that you can cut images and quotes from.
  • Most importantly, the stuff you want to look at every day.  Photos, quotes, sayings, images of places you want to go.
  • Time.  Give yourself a stress-free hour or two to put your board together.

How to do it:

Spend time gathering images, headlines and random words; anything that catches your eye in magazines, from online sources, or anywhere that inspires you.  If an image provokes a positive feeling in your body, grab it.

First, I create my push pins.  Using the hot glue gun, I decorate the pins with flowers, glitter glue, jewels, buttons, etc.

Then, when it comes to actually putting your stuff on the board, lay everything out before you start pinning so you can get an idea of where you want everything.

When you finish, I would love to see pictures of your boards!  Please COMMENT and SHARE below.

Cheers to a Fashionating 2017!!!

PS – I’m going to host a vision board party on the first night of my Refashion Retreat weekend in Naples, FL – (July 28-29, 2017). I know it will set the tone for the event – everyone will be more focused & less stressed after we do it.  Contact Me if you want more information regarding the retreat.

Bobbi Brown Inspired – Makeup Tips For Looking Gorgeous in Glasses

*Hey, four-eyes!

Glasses definitely make a style statement, but your eyes can get lost beneath your frames unless you adjust your makeup.

Here are my favorite ways to make your eyes pop from behind your lenses.

MAKEUP TIPS FOR GIRLS WHO ROCK GLASSES:

  • Eyeliner is key; it really adds definition from behind your lenses.
  • Always define your brows with a shadow the same shade as your hair color.  This will ensure that your glasses don’t overpower your face.
  • The glass in your frames can highlight under eye discoloration and darkness, so corrector and concealer underneath the eye and in creases is essential.
  • Waterproof mascara won’t smudge on your lenses.
  • If you have strong frames, you can get away with stronger makeup.
  • If your frames are delicate, or in a nude shade, don’t let your makeup overpower your frames.  Choose softer colors for shadow and create definition with a dark liner and mascara.
  • The color of your eye shadow shouldn’t compete with the color of your glasses.  If you want to do the same color as your frames on your eyelids, try a base hue that’s a shade lighter, and go a few shades darker for the crease color.  Finish with black liner and mascara.
  • For an easy look, go with a bold color on your lips and just corrector, concealer, and mascara for your eyes.  Put on your glasses and you’re done.

*I was 42 when I started working at MAC Cosmetics.  Yeah, 42.  Thank goodness their moto is : All ages. All races. All sexes.

I rocked the colorful eye shadows, winged liner, false lashes and loud lipsticks for five years.  The day I couldn’t read the Name on the bottom of the lipstick tube – I started to plan my retirement party.  I was already wearing contact lenses to see far and now I couldn’t see up close.  I refused to wear “cheaters” because I thought those were for old ladies.  I lost my self confidence and was afraid I’d lost my credibility.  Seeing an old woman makeup artist (wearing “cheaters”) says one of two things – “Wow! She must be an expert with tons of experience” OR “Wow! She can’t see for Sh*t and I I don’t want her doing MY makeup!”  I had no choice (in my mind) and I retired.

True Story.

I’ve come a long way since my blurred vision days at MAC and today when you see me “doing makeup” I wear funky, crazy, hipster-style “cheaters”.  I look much hipper, younger and more confident.  Bottom line… It’s all about how you SEE yourself!

The Foolproof Way To Create A Perfect Smokey Eye All By Yourself

THE SMOKEY EYE is timelessly sexy.  But too many women skip it altogether, because it seems too hard to create.

When it comes to gorgeous eyes, the right tools, makeup and application techniques matter.

I’m coming from behind the makeup counter to share a secret that makeup artists don’t want you to know.

HOW TO APPLY YOUR OWN EYE MAKEUP

When it comes to a gorgeous smokey eye, you want to lift your chin and look down into the mirror.

Try to keep your eye open.  The goal is to create a flat lid while still being able to see what you’re doing.

If you squint, you risk applying product to wrinkles or folds.

For lower eye application, do just the opposite: Put your chin down (make a double chin) and look up into the mirror.

You’ll be amazed how much easier it will be to see your application.

Now, let’s create that perfect Smokey Eye all by yourself.  Keep your chin up, beautiful!

The number one request I get as a makeup artist is for a “smokey eye”.  The smokey eye is actually a technique, not specific colors.

You need three colored shadows (light, medium & dark).  Purples are my favorite, they look great on everybody.

  1.  With the lightest color, apply from the lash line all the way to the eyebrow.
  2.  With the darkest color apply on the eyelid to the crease.
  3.   With the medium color apply in the crease.  (blend back and forth like a windshield wiper)
  4.   Apply eye liner around the entire eye.
  5.   Mascara, Mascara, Mascara!!!

Congratulations!  You’ve achieved an eye look so smoldering, others will be captivated by your beauty.

Are you feeling empowered?  Have I helped in some way?

I would love to hear from you.  Please COMMENT below.
