Business Card Mistakes That Hurt Your Brand

Do business cards really matter?

YES! YES! YES!

Your business cards are a useful tool  for personally connecting with prospects,

customers or clients,

fellow business owners and

promoting your brand in person.

Hey Lipstick Boss!

Here are 10 Business Card Mistakes You Might Be Making.

True Story:

Last week I was a vendor at a women’s networking showcase and I ran out of business cards.

I ended up writing my information on a cardboard drink coaster.

There’s a good chance I won’t be hired by THAT person!

That night I ordered new business cards.

Here’s how to boost your connections with business cards:

Your business card is the first touch point  between your company and your potential clients.

With hundreds of people handing out business cards at a networking event, a great business card can help you ATTRACT your ideal clients, instantly!

Let’s make sure yours isn’t making any of these mistakes.

10 Business Card Mistakes You Might Be Making

  1. Small font size.  Don’t lose business because your information doesn’t STAND OUT.
  2. Glossy paper.  Not good for writing notes on – which most people do.
  3. Light font color.  Make it easy for your clients to read your information.
  4. Design inconsistent with website.  Consistency helps clients recognize you.
  5. No links to social media site.  Clients need to know where they can find you.
  6. No email or web address.  Just a phone #.  What if I’m not ready to talk live yet?
  7. No lead magnet.  Build your list with a FREEBIE.
  8. Includes no logo or photo. Branding strategy. (See #4)
  9. Includes no brand promise or tag line.
  10. Does not use back of card. Prime real estate! (Great place for #7)

Your business cards are a valuable tool.  Carry them with you at all times!

How to Narrow Your Niche – The Perfect Elevator Pitch

Are you tired of being the best kept secret?

Have you ever had a friend, or someone from your networking group give a referral to someone else because they didn’t realize EXACTLY what you do?

Ouch!

When I first started going to networking events and giving my 30 second (elevator speech), I sounded like a drunk cowboy.

I uhhhhh… my name is…. ummmm, I help anybody….”

Honestly, the most painful 30 seconds of the day. (for me and I’m sure, for my audience)

Listen…I WANT to be my own boss.  I WANT to help people.

After all, I’ve got tons of credentials, mad skills and a bubbly personality! ! !

I feel like EVERYBODY could benefit from my products and/or my services.

My problem… I was marketing to the masses, and it wasn’t until I narrowed my niche that I found my perfect clients, my confidence and constant cash flow!

So next time you are at a networking event, talking to a stranger in the grocery line (prospecting at Publix), or at a party and someone asks you, “What do you do?”,

Do This.

Say, ” Hi, My name is _________________(say it sllllooowly),

I help __________(specifically WHO you help),

_____________________(exactly WHAT you help them do)!

That’s it.

Nothing more. Nothing less.

Wait for their Reaction, Comment or Question.

Your Perfect Clients will Self-Select and your friends will know exactly what you do and they will be excited to give you referrals!

You are NOT meant to work with everybody! Networking Guide (eBook)

Maybe it’s time to give up and get a “real job”.

That was my first thought when I got home after a thirty minute drive from yet another speaking engagement with no book sales and no emails for my list.

I was about to text my mentor and tell her “I Suck. I Quit.” when all of sudden, I realized what I did wrong.

I spent half a day speaking to a group of people who were NOT my target market.  Fail.

It reminded me of when I used to go to networking events (before I created my personal brand), and wasted time, energy and money; because I was

  • prospecting everybody with a pulse and a pocketbook,
  • sharing my products and opportunity with everybody within a 3 foot radius;
  • and collecting business cards from everybody.

This is NOT how to grow your business or your brand.

You are NOT meant to work with everybody!

The Absolute Best Way to Prospect for Network Marketers – Stop Bugging Strangers!

Ever hear of the 3 foot rule?  Newcomers to Network Marketing are told that everyone within 3 feet is your prospect and you should show her your business opportunity.

Nothing could be further from the truth!

After studying successful people in small business, I have discovered that successful network marketers build relationships, they build friendships. Their goal was NOT to immediately recruit their prospects.

People don’t join a business – they join YOU!

It all starts with a First Impression.

It’s important to know how to make a good first impression.

A first impression is what a person thinks of you when they first see you.  Making a good first impression can lead to a relationship and ultimately sales.  So whether you are walking through the mall, sitting at a coffee shop, or at a social event, you never get a second chance to make a first impression… unless everyone was drunk!

Did you know?  When a person sees you for the first time they form an impression in 30 seconds.  Of that first impression, 55 percent is your visual appearance, 38 percent is non-verbal communication and just 7 percent is what you say.

Wow! Fifty-five percent of your credibility is based on how you LOOK!

Will you agree that clothes are the most noticeable thing about a person?

The absolute first impression you will make on someone will be through your clothing.

Do you know how to dress to create your best possible first impression and attract your ideal client?

  1. Wear your best colors.
  2. Wear clothes that fit your body type.
  3. Wear clothes that express your style personality.

Colors that suit you make you look healthier, slimmer and younger.  When you know you’re looking good, you feel great and so self-esteem rises and with it grows your confidence.

Here is a quick do-it-yourself assessment to identify which colors will make you look your best.

K. I. S. S.

K is for (K)nowing if you’re WARM or COOL by,

I (I)dentifying the veins inside your wrist and,

(S)eeing if your veins are Blue = COOL or Green = WARM;

And then wearing that (S)side of the color wheel.

TEST:  In the natural light make a fist and look at the inside of your wrist.

If you see Green veins you are WARM and Red, Orange & Yellows will look amazing on you.

If you see Blue veins you are COOL and Green, Blue & Violets will make you look beautiful.

What if you see Blue and Green veins?

Ah, ha!  Most likely, you are both Warm and Cool.  You’re NEUTRAL.  You can wear any color on the color wheel.

COOL COLORS                                                                                                                       WARM COLORS

Divide the wheel down the middle.  To the right are WARM colors.   To the left are COOL colors.

When you are wearing your best colors, there is a balance and harmony between your natural color and the colors you are wearing.  The colors of your skin, hair and eyes will seem fresher and brighter.  Your skin will appear more clear and healthier, and because of how others react to you, you will feel more confident. (One important key to success is self-confidence)

No more bugging strangers in public places!

You will be attracting your ideal clients.  Your Vibe Attracts Your Tribe.

YOU are a Powerful LEAD MAGNET!
