How God Revived My Creative Calling: My Created to Thrive Foundations Testimony
If you’re a Christian artist or creative entrepreneur longing for a deeper sense of purpose, clarity, and confidence in your Kingdom calling, this testimony is for you.
Recently, I walked through a transformational experience inside a creative discipleship course that helped me reconnect with my identity, my art, and the Holy Spirit in ways I never expected. I’m sharing my journey here—messy moments, breakthroughs, and all, in hopes that it encourages you on your own path of faith, creativity, and supernatural purpose.
For years, I quietly wondered if I had disappointed God.
After 17 years of running a thriving home-based handcraft business: craft shows, wholesale markets, sewing pattern design, doll making, even importing my creations from China, I suddenly unplugged my glue gun, turned off my sewing machine, and walked away. What I expected to be a short break turned into 19 years away from the very creativity God had placed in me.
This summer, exhaustion and striving caught up with me. I “retired” from my makeup artistry business, feeling confused, behind, and torn between my past creative life and my present one. I saw my old sewing patterns being resold online like vintage relics and wondered if my art, and maybe even my purpose, had expired.
But everything shifted when I found Matt Tommey’s Created to Thrive Foundations Course. What I didn’t know then was that God was about to breathe life back into the artist He designed me to be.
My Starting Point: Lost, Torn & Unsure of My Place as an Artist
When I began this course, I felt stuck in a fog of fear and confusion.
I worried that I had wasted years of God-given creativity. I questioned whether I could still make an impact. I wondered if people took my craft seriously, especially after a friend once joked that I was like a “gypsy” going from craft show to craft show. That comment stuck with me for decades.
I felt torn…
Was I the successful craftswoman from years ago?
Was I the makeup artist and lipstick company owner?
Was I even an artist anymore?
More than anything, I longed to feel understood, confident, and empowered again.
Then I stumbled onto one of Matt’s podcasts. He spoke like someone who had lived inside my creative brain. I signed up for his newsletter, saw the invitation to join the Foundations course, and God whispered to my heart, This is where you’re meant to be.
My Transformation: Breakthroughs That Changed My Identity
Throughout the course, God gently began untangling old lies and reconnecting the pieces of my identity.
Discovering My Creative Design
Lesson 2 helped me realize that creativity had never left me. I had simply changed mediums: clothespin dolls, string dolls, cloth dolls, sewing patterns, lipstick artistry, junk journals, paper dolls.
It was all creativity.
All part of God’s design.
Breaking Roadblocks & Old Mindsets
Lesson 3 was the turning point.
For the first time, I saw every emotion, belief, dream, and desire as part of God’s masterpiece in me. I realized the things that held me back – comparison, shame, disappointment, old voices, had no place in this new season.
I didn’t need to drag the old lies into my future.
God was giving me permission to step into the fullness of my calling.
Creating With God, Not for Him
I learned to stop performing and striving.
I started partnering with the Holy Spirit and letting Him breathe through my creativity.
And something sacred shifted inside me:
I felt free.
My Current Reality: God Meets Me in My Studio Now
Today, my studio feels different.
Alive. Light. Sacred.
I step inside, turn on a worship song, and let God lead my creativity. I feel His presence in my quiet time, in my sketching, in my paper dolls, in every layer of mixed media.
Confidence Rebuilt
I’m no longer afraid of being “behind” or “not enough.”
I start where I am and trust God to grow me daily.
He even gave me a dream (Week 8), reminding me to stop comparing myself to other artists and trust that my own designs are good enough.
Freedom From Anxiety & Negative Thoughts
Creating Kingdom-led art has grounded me emotionally and spiritually.
Less overthinking.
Less anxiety.
Less emotional snacking (I’ve dropped 10 pounds just from living aligned with my divine design!). How cool is that?!
The Core Breakthrough
After all these years, I can finally say it without hesitation:
I am an artist.
A real, divinely designed, Kingdom artist.
Encouragement for Other Artists: Your Creativity Matters to God
If you feel stuck…
If you’ve laid down your creativity… (to work a job you hate, just to pay the bills)…
If you’re unsure whether your art matters…
If you’ve wondered whether you missed your moment…
I want you to hear this:
You haven’t missed anything.
Your creative calling is still alive.
God hasn’t changed His mind about you. I promise.
Here’s proof: “For God’s gifts and His call are irrevocable. [He never withdraws them once they are given, and He does not change His mind about those to whom He gives His grace or to whom He sends His call.]” Romans 11:29 AMP
This course helped me rediscover my identity, my voice, my confidence, and my joy.
It brought me back to the artist God designed me to be—and I believe He wants to do the same for you.
I was created to thrive.
And so are you.
I invite you to stick around, creative friend! I’ll be sharing more real life, paint brush & glue-gun-powered adventures in faith and art.
