What is Shiny Object Syndrome? (and is there a cure?)

What is “Shiny Object Syndrome”?  S.O.S. is the tendency for someone to get distracted by new thoughts and ideas, their own and others, and never focus or complete anything!

In effect, the solopreneur is in such a state of constant distraction that they continually lose themselves in imagination & dreaming, instead of seeing the bigger picture and getting things done.

S.O.S. will commonly result in procrastination even chronic procrastination and a constant sense of unease and dissatisfaction at not being able to move forward.

S.O.S. results in one or more unfinished projects that often times, they would be better off focusing on to actually make real progress.  This is probably one of the toughest challenges any new solopreneur has to overcome.

Here’s your Prescription!

F.O.C.U.S.

Follow. One. Course. Until. Successful.

Concentrate your effort and energy on what’s important.  YOU BECOME EFFECTIVE BY BEING SELECTIVE.

If you want your life to have impact, FOCUS IT!!!

As solopreneurs we need an incredible amount of discipline and focus to stay on course, because it’s easy to wander.  The challenge is to remain focused and disciplined in a solopreneur world.

PS – Proof that S.O.S. is real, while creating this post – I was distracted and had a thought about lipstick…  Did you know that the average woman consumes 6 lbs of lipstick in a lifetime?  Allow me to offer you a Beauty Tip so you will be the shiny object that others are attracted to.

Lipstick Tip:  Light colors with “shimmer” or “shine” enhance thin lips best.

Was this helpful?  I challenge you to stay on path.  I would like to hear from you – Please COMMENT below and SHARE your experiences so we can all stick together and support each other with S.O.S.

Kisses!

The Beauty of a Mastermind Group – Struggles of a Solopreneur

Being a solepreneur does not mean you have to do it alone.  Working from a home office or office space by yourself can make you feel isolated and lonely.  The best thing to do is to connect with like-minded entrepreneurs through networking, social media and business organizations that support your business needs.

MASTERMIND GROUPS share their ideas, questions, triumphs and downfalls.  Members with questions get immediate feedback from the others, while everyone learns from everyone else’s experience and wisdom.

I suggest FACE TO FACE entrepreneur groups with like-minded entrepreneurs.  Meet with other entrepreneurs who are more interested in sharing business than making you their customer.

Here’s a Tip on how to *Put your best FACE forward.

Your skin is your largest organ.  Studies show that in 26 seconds all the chemicals in your personal care products go through your entire bloodstream.  Your personal care products are like food for your skin.  What’s in you products?

THE EUROPEAN UNION BANS MORE THAN 1,400 CHEMICALS IN PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS.  THE UNITED STATES BANS LESS THAN 10.

Treat yourself to a daily beauty regime and additional beauty treatments that are safe, nontoxic and effective.  You deserve the best!

The best way to get your face glowing and radiant is by exfoliation.  It’s the #1 anti-aging secret.

Exfoliation = removes dead skin cells and smooths skin for a brighter, healthier look.  Find a gentle exfoliator that you can use every day.  It should be the foundation step of your daily beauty regime.

I am part of a group called “Women of Wisdom” that was created by a fellow solopreneur.  We meet twice a month.

If you’re serious about wanting to achieve high levels of success, you need to find entrepreneur groups or join a mastermind group.

Why You Shouldn’t Work in Your Pajamas – Struggles of a Solopreneur

Working from home on your own can cause laziness.  If you treat it like a hobby, you’ll have hobby results, so treat it like a business.

GET UP, GET DRESSED AND GO TO WORK!

The act of being dressed will set this time apart from doing household chores, watching TV and drinking coffee.  Yes, you have the luxury of working in your pj’s, but when you are dressed for work you’re more likely to leave the house, network and connect with clients.

*WINNING WITH YOUR CLOTHES!

Color attracts the eye first.  Are you wearing the right color?

How many times has someone asked you “Are you tired?” “Are you not feeling well?” and yet you were perfectly fine!  Chances are you were wearing the wrong color.  The natural color of your skin, your hair and your eyes determines which colors will make you look radiant or washed out.

When you are wearing your best colors, there is a balance and harmony between your natural color and the colors you are wearing.  The colors of our skin, hair and eyes will seem fresher and brighter.  Your skin will appear more clear and healthier, and because of how others will react to you, you will feel more confident.

When you are not wearing your best colors, there is a lack of balance or harmony between you and your clothes.  Your clothes will clash with your natural color, causing you to look unhealthy and tired.  Any lines or dark, uneven color in your face will be more apparent.

Knowing whether you are Warm or Cool is the foundation of your personal image.

Here is a quick do-it-yourself assessment to identify which colors will make you look your best.

In the natural light make a fist and look at the inside of your wrist.

If you see Green veins your are WARM and Red, Orange & Yellows will look amazing on you.

If you see Blue veins you are COOL and Green, Blue and Violets will look beautiful on you.

What if you see Blue and Green veins?

Ah, ha!  Most likely, you are both Warm and Cool.  You’re NEUTRAL.  You can wear any color on the color wheel.

Divide the wheel down the middle.  To the right are WARM colors.  To the left are COOL colors.

Your eye color is your best neutral.  If you have no idea what color to wear… go with the color of your eyes!

Life is a fashion show and the world is your runway, so always dress your best and walk with confidence.” – Coco Chanel

What To Do If You Suck At Network Marketing?

What To Do If You Suck At Network Marketing? Don’t worry.  You are not alone.
“HELLO, My name is Nancy and I suck at Network Marketing”. There, I said it. Admitting this is my first step into recovery and so begins the journey to achieve higher levels of productivity, prosperity, success and well-being.
I started in Network Marketing in the 90’s. Like most people do, I entered a company only to get discounted products. Words like: upline, downline, sponsor, commission, qualification and residual income were not in my vocabulary. I was simply playing with stickers and making pretty photo album pages.
In 2006, I joined a skin care Network Marketing company and set out to make “gangster money” and drive a White Mercedes Benz.
TEN YEARS in…. I’m not driving the Benz; instead, I’ve been riding the struggle bus! Oh, sometimes the struggle bus takes me to Downline Drive and Commission Corner – but because I can’t see myself there (poor self-image), I’M STUCK!
This past Saturday I attended a training by Ray and Jessica Higdon in Fort Myers, FL. It was a Home Business Intensive – training geared toward Network Marketers. Who is Ray Higdon?
If you’re in network marketing, you may have heard of Ray and Jessica Higdon. They are an awesome Power-Couple who have gone from being regular people, like you and I, working full-time jobs, to becoming top MLM earners & now they train other network marketers to do the same.
I first met Jessica back in 2009; while working together at a makeup counter. We both left that job and lost touch for several years.  I’m so happy that recently, we reconnected.
I believe that MLM, Direct Sales and Network Marketing is one of the smartest things you can do with your time and money in today’s economy.

The three main reasons why I like Network Marketing is: 1) I get to build my fortune, not someone else’s; 2) Time Freedom; and, 3) I get to surround myself with like minded, fun, ambitious people. However, I’m frustrated… because I suck at it!
When I saw that Ray and Jessica were doing a local training…I knew I had to be there!

I’d like to share my “take aways” from the Business Intensive Training with YOU:

Why I suck at Network Marketing…
I’m not successful because as a Leader I don’t make it easy for my customers or my team.
I don’t do the things that I wish my team was doing.
Everyone has different goals and I “feel” like I disappointed someone – so I didn’t stay.
I heard it was “Easy” and It’s NOT! (Stop pitching “easy”)
Because I didn’t have success in the Fast Start Program, or get my car bonus in 18 months, (or for 10 years) – I was comparing myself to those network marketers with the Super Hero Powers instead of focusing on what happened “good” this week.
I don’t have reusable resources that I can share with my team or my customers (videos, blog posts, PDF’s, etc.)
Desperate eager energy to make money is keeping me from making the money.
I allowed certain people to be in my organization that don’t share my core values.
When I talk to people about my opportunity, I sound like I’ve been abducted by aliens instead of sounding like me. There is no “magical script”

More reasons why I suck at Network Marketing…
Instead of finding people who “want” what I have, I am looking for the people who “need” what I have. Everyone is not for me and I am not for everyone. Duh!
And because I don’t have a mantra that I say to myself before I speak to someone, make a video or do a presentation, I don’t have the confidence I need.
I don’t have a success system in place.
I super suck at follow up!
I don’t look at myself as an owner of a business.
I don’t have a network marketing mentor.

And I realize the NUMBER ONE reason I suck at Network Marketing is…
SELF-IMAGE
“The “self-image” is the key to your personality and your behavior. Change your self image and you change your personality and your behavior… The “self-image” sets the boundaries of individual accomplishment. It defines what you can and cannot do. Expand the “self-image” and you expand the area of the possible… The development of an adequate, realistic “self-image” will seem to inspire the individual with new capabilities, new talents and literally turn failure into success.” – Dr. Maxwell Maltz

Just to be clear… I’ve been in the fashion and beauty industry for more than 12 years. I’m passionate about this field because I struggled with my self-image and confidence. Today I help women entrepreneurs discover and develop their personal image, purpose and potential. I love to help them feel and look good. But for me, as far as building a NETWORK MARKETING business, I battle with self-sabotaging behaviors and I want to be as productive and prosperous as possible and so

On Saturday, after attending the event, I decided to get off that struggle bus and get on the SUCCESS TRAIN!

First Stop- Get rid of those self-limiting beliefs.

THIS IS MY 21 DAY JOURNEY…. WHO’S WITH ME?

I would like to hear from you. Please comment below and share some of your struggles with having a Home-based business.

Ten Tips on Choosing a Guest Speaker

Choosing a Guest Speaker

Choosing the right guest speaker to meet all your objectives can be a stressful task.  Your guest speaker selection is one of the most important elements in a successful meeting. Selecting the right business speaker for your meeting can be a daunting task, as public speakers are available in every fee range and specialty topic.

We find that many of our clients have struggled for years to find guest speakers who are a good match for their group. Clients are looking for a well known professional, familiar with their industry, who will present a customized program with a perfect blend of humor and cutting edge information that will leave the audience motivated and well-informed.

By blending her funny real-life stories and her twelve years of  fashion and beauty expertise, Inspirational Keynote Speaker NANCY JOSEPH educates, empowers, and entertains—delivering solutions her audiences can use right away. Each presentation contains powerful information on how your image impacts your income and  your outcome in your personal and professional life.

Ten Tips on choosing a guest speaker

1. ENTERTAINMENT VERSUS MESSAGE: You’ll need to decide on the blend of entertainment value and meaningful message that you want for your program. You’ll find guest speakers who range from 100% entertainment value to those who focus almost exclusively on content with little entertainment value. Often you can find the exact blend that you’re looking for. For example, if you wanted 70% entertainment value and 30% motivational message, many professional speakers can tailor their talk to fit your needs. Just let them know exactly what you want. If you’re not sure what you want, discuss the options which your speaker might offer to you.

2. TYPES OF GUEST SPEAKERS:

a. The HUMORIST is someone who delivers humor with a message: Story, relevant point, story, relevant point. Professional humorists can normally blend their humor and message to fit your needs.

b. The MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER provides an inspiring and uplifting program usually built around powerful stories, often personal experiences of the speaker. Most motivational speakers also use humor, but not to the extent that a humorist would.

c. The INDUSTRY SPEAKER is a person with expertise in a particular industry who lectures on a specific topic. Industry speakers are generally not known for their entertainment or motivational value but are brought in to inform and take an in depth look at a particular topic.

3. INTERNET WEB SITE: A speaker’s web site will give you an instant “brochure” which may help you make a decision. Speakers’ web sites should include video clips, clients lists and testimonials. A quality professional speaker will be easy to find on the internet and will generally appear on the first or second page of search results for the topic you are looking for.

4. TESTIMONIALS: Testimonials may give you an indication of quality. You could ask for the names and phone numbers of three recent clients (who had the kind of program you need). Call them and ask questions. Read between the lines and listen for genuine enthusiasm in their voice when talking about their experience with the speaker.

5. VIDEO SEGMENTS: All professional speaker should have video footage available on their website. Watch for genuine audience response, the ability to hold the audiences attention (Do you get bored just watching the footage?)

6. VIEW A PERFORMANCE: It might be possible to watch the speaker in a live performance before hiring. Although this is often not possible, you could ask. Most speakers will not “audition” for a single-date performance, but you might be able to attend someone else’s program. is probably the best way to really see the speaker’s style and content.

7. AWARDS: Although awards are normally a good flag, you just never know the true significance of the award received by the speaker. Ask the speaker if they belong to professional associations. Also ask what awards or certifications they have earned.

8. PERFORMER’S EXPERIENCE: How long has the motivational speaker been in the business? Does the speaker speak full-time (earning a living as a speaker) or part-time (with a full-time day job)? These considerations may or may not have a great impact on the quality of the talk.

9. CUSTOMIZATION: Find a motivational speaker who will tailor his or her presentation to your group. While talking with the speaker, you may get a feel for his or her customization skills. What kind of questions is the speaker asking YOU about the audience or organizational culture? Not every talk needs customization but most professional speakers specialize in adding a personal touch.

10. INTRODUCING THE SPEAKER: Normally, the introduction is an important part of the speaker’s talk. Most professional speakers will provide you with a written introduction in advance. Find someone in your organization who will be able to properly set the stage for the talk and get the program off to a good start.

Five Secrets to a Successful Book Launch Party

Traditionally, authors have book signings and sit in a book store for four hours and sell a couple of books (average is 8 copies).  I decided to have a Book Launch Party (for 2 hrs.) and sold more than 50 books!

There were 5 fascinating details that I made sure to include in my Book Launch Party:

  1.  Venue – Somehow relate your venue to the vibe you’re trying to create.  I heard about a book launch at a chocolate store because the main character loved chocolate.  My book is about fashion and beauty and living a CONFIDENT fashionating lifestyle.  A waterfront steak and lobster restaurant was the perfect location for my party.  http://www.t-michaels.com They sponsored the event and offered free Appetizers and a cash bar.  A Sunday afternoon from 1-3 was the perfect day and time.
  2. Invitations – I had bookmarks made and mailed them (yes, U.S. Postal snail mail).  I used nextdayflyers.com.  When a guest receives a physical invitation, chances are they will save the date.  Create an Event on Facebook too and Invite and Share with everybody!
  3. Entertain Your Guests – I had a lipstick bar, complimentary hair styling (volunteers from a salon) and a roaming fashion show with several of the retailers in the shopping mall. http://www.venetianvillage.com  Tai Rambert, Ms. Florida was the Emcee of the fashion show.  She wore her sash and crown and my guests were excited to get photos with her. (Me too!) Think outside the box.  meandms.florida
  4. Speakers – Have one or two guests do a short Testimonial for you and a Book Review.  Then, you take the stage and talk about your book.  I thanked everyone for coming and for their support. Honestly, the hardest part of putting the book together was making sure that I remembered to acknowledge everybody.  I apologized to my audience and told them not to be offended if I didn’t acknowledge them in print and explained that when my mother died in 2013 (she had 7 brothers and sisters), I forgot to acknowledge one of her siblings in the obituary!  Oops! Now that you’re an author, you’ll need to sharpen your speaking skills.  I recommend Toastmasters.  It’s a nonprofit educational organization that helps with public speaking. http://www.toastmasters.org  After the speeches, I had a line of people wanting to get their Autographed copy! signingbooks
  5. Giveaways – The shopping mall put together a Swag Bag for the first 50 guests.  It was filled with a water bottle, beach ball, a hat, a pen, a map of the mall and coupons from a couple of the merchants.  I reached out to local business women and asked them if they wanted to add some promotional items to the bag, as well.  The crowd favorite was the Chance Raffle that I did for a pair of Designer COACH Sunglasses.  Everyone that purchased a book from me during the event had their name put in a raffle to win the sunglasses. (I had actually won the glasses in a raffle the week before and they “weren’t my color” so I was happy to pass them on).  Do you know your best color?  Step One of The Fashionating Life Formula:  How to Build Your Self Confidence is Color Analysis.

Overall, it was a successful event and a great way to launch my book tour.  Next stop, locally owned coffee shop for my “Learn How to Espresso Yourself” Book Signing/Styling Event!

Special thanks to Melissa (Marketing Director) at Venetian Village, Naples, FL; for her generosity and expertise.  Without her, I would have been sitting in a book store….
