How To Build A Capsule Lipstick Wardrobe Like a Boss

It’s NOT just a Lipstick – It’s your secret weapon to help you look and feel your best!

It’s NOT just a Lipstick – It’s a mood booster.

It’s NOT just a Lipstick – It’s a tool for self-expression – and a statement of your unique style!

Hey, Lipstick Lover! A good start for a Capsule Lipstick Wardrobe is 3 shades: a go-with-everything neutral, a bright and a wild card! Let’s find yours with the help of LIPSTICK BOSS Beauty Specialty Lipsticks that match your unique coloring and distinctive personality.

But first, The Prep

It’s no surprise that smooth moisturized lips are the best base for your lipstick. I swear by LIPSTICK BOSS Vitamin E stick because it moisturizes, smoothes & softens. The best part – it promotes cell turnover + regeneration for fresh lips day and night; leaving your lips supple and plump. Ok, let’s go.

The One for Everyday

If you’re like me, you’re always on the search for that perfect lipstick that matches your own lip color – just better. It’s my favorite look for everyday as it makes me feel pulled together but not over the top. I’m in love with LIPSTICK BOSS in the shade Sweet As Sugar for the SOFT Color Code™.

Here’s a Pro Tip – Lipstick Hack for finding that perfect match quickly when you’re at the lipstick counter.

Swipe the colors on your finger tips because our natural lip color is similar to our finger tips!

You are fearfully and wonderfully made. Thank you, God!

Sweet As Sugar

The Power Pout

A great RED is classic and sexy all at once. There are so many to choose from and finding ‘The One’ can be tricky if you don’t know your undertones. I love LIPSTICK BOSS in RED VELVET because it’s a bright, blue- red and looks sensational on a CLEAR, COOL, DEEP, LIGHT and SOFT.

A great RED for WARM undertones is an orangey-red.

Red Velvet

The Wild Card

A vibrant, optimistic, raspberry shade might be totally out of your comfort zone, but it will make you feel like a rockstar when you wear it. Any pinky/purple shade that resembles “Viva Magenta” – Color of the Year, will do the job! I love this shade RASPBERRY from LIPSTICK BOSS because it is EXACTLY what we needed to get us back out in the world after these past three years.

Raspberry (Viva-Magenta)

The EXOTIC PLUM shade from LIPSTICK BOSS is another Wild Card that needs to be in your capsule lipstick wardrobe!

Dopamine Dressing For Your Mental Health

The idea of dressing to help boost your mood is nothing new. It’s called ‘Dopamine Dressing’. Also known as ‘Enclothed Cognition’ and ‘Joyful Dressing’.

It’s simply a shift towards clothing that’s bright, colorful, and downright joyful.

It’s the opposite of everything we wore at home the past three years. Think candy colors, neon hues, and prints that POP.

Dopamine Dressing: Fucshia + Lime Green color combo, Kermit Graphic T, Falsies,
LIPSTICK BOSS Lipstick & Bright Pink Earrings!

This association between brightly colored clothing and happiness is not new, the idea of injecting joy through what we wear is what I call ‘Dress Out Loud’ – and it’s what transformed my life.

I’m wearing the same three outfits on repeat. Seventy pounds overweight; nothing fits. I don’t like the way I look; I’m hiding in my house.

The crazy thing: I’m managing a ladies fashion boutique crammed full of colorful clothes & sparkly accessories, and I’m “Beige Betty” over here – feeling ugly, insecure + invisible.

So, I run away from home for five days, at 50 years old...

Little did I know, the dark season of going ‘unnoticed’ would soon be over for me thanks to dopamine dressing.

While I’m not promising that dopamine dressing can cure depression or anxiety, dressing in clothes that complement your coloring, body type and personality can certainly give you a much-needed emotional boost and it’s a great place to start!

Three Things You Need to Know About Dopamine Dressing

There is a slight art to following this movement, so I wanted to share three things you need to know when playing around with dopamine dressing.

#1. Use Color Theory/A Color Wheel

Use Color Theory/A Color Wheel to help decide what color combinations you want to try together. How colors mix, match or contrast with each other will determine how well your look comes together.

#2. Ease Into it With Accessories

Keep your foundational pieces (dress, top, or bottoms) in a neutral color and then layer in a pop of color with a boldly-colored handbag, shoes, jewelry, lipstick or even nail polish (I love press-on nails because they can instantly lift your whole mood)!

#3. Stick with Silhouettes That Flatter You

Then just step outside of your comfort zone when it comes to the pattern or color. Don’t go against your own style rules; still think about the colors (your Color Code™) and what shapes (your Body Type) are flattering on you.

I spent an entire year discovering and developing my personal image, purpose and potential; and as a result, God transformed my personal appearance, my mental and emotional health and restored my marriage.

Conclusion,

Fashion is meant to be fun and a form of self-expression, so next time you need a boost in your mood when getting dressed, try out the dopamine dressing movement to see how it makes you feel!

AS BELIEVERS, you and I are on a never-ending journey of becoming brighter and more beautiful – Christ-like beautiful.

Why I Used to Hate Networking {Hint: It’s My Weight}

{The irony that World Mental Health Day and National Curves Day  are on the same day – inspired this post}

QUESTION:  Have you said “No” to a networking event because you felt insecure?

According to a recent survey by Marshall’s Department Store, more than 70 percent of women say that they have said ‘No’ to a social event or activity due to low self confidence.

If I’m being brutally honest.

I used to hate networking because I was embarrassed about my weight.

I felt ashamed by my weight.

I tied my self worth & my success to my body image.

I decided that I’m not good enough or worthy of success.

If something went wrong in my day, no matter how big or small, I felt anxious, I felt depressed which then lead to self sabotage.

So for me, self sabotage looks like (not taking care of myself).

Eating through my emotions.

Not showing up.

Not moving my body.

All things related to my weight.

Let me tell you a story:

AS A YOUNG GIRL, I would sit on the edge of my mother’s bed and watch her get ready for “date night” with my father.

I was fascinated with her cherry red lipstick and watched carefully as she applied it to her lips, “shmeared” it on her cheeks, and then rubbed vigorously.  It was magical.

In Seventh Grade, I got permission to wear makeup to school.  I jumped on my yellow ten-speed “Peugot” bicycle; that my father crafted for me in the basement, and rode to the shopping mall.  I broke the 8th Commandment (Thou Shall Not Steal), and stole a blue eye shadow, mascara and bubble gum pink lipstick from the drug store, and wore it to school the next day.

I didn’t even make it to lunchtime.  The boys in my class were brutal.  They laughed at me and called me a “prostitute”.  One boy pinched my neck and left a mark; it looked like a hickey.

I was humiliated, embarrassed and ashamed.

I went to the nurse’s office to call my mom to come get me.  I broke Commandment #9 (Thou Shall Not Lie) and told my mom, “I had cramps”.

This was the first moment I can remember allowing someone else’s opinion of me make me feel ashamed of who I was!

This was a significant emotional experience that resulted in self harm, binge eating, anxiety and full blown panic attacks.

IN MY ADULT LIFE, I was told, on more than one occasion, that I had a “pretty face”, but I would be so much prettier if I lost weight.

I’m Pretty FAT.

(I’m okay with that)

I don’t know what you’re dealing with today.

Whatever it is – it’s real to you.

Here’s an empowering reminder to celebrate yourself from head to toe.

Because while you should love what you wear, loving yourself is always the most important thing.

I BELIEVE my journey as an entrepreneur and possibly yours too, would be so much more exciting,

so much more rich,

and impactful,

if we were able to accept ourselves just the way we are TODAY and not allow other people’s opinions of us keep us from happiness, abundance and our purpose on this planet!

I’VE COME A LONG WAY since my first makeup nightmare.  TODAY I help women create success through personal development and entrepreneurship.

I BELIEVE this message found it’s way to you at just the right time.

Maybe it’s time for you too – to look at that one struggle – that one challenge that you just know is holding you back.

In the mean time… I’m here for you.

Pretty FAT.

Kisses!
